Hello!

Thanks for visiting our on-line site. Union Elementary School is an exciting place for children. Learning comes alive here as the entire staff lives out our mission of supporting children in all areas. The staff includes specialists in art, music, physical education, guidance, media and special needs. They are supported by instructional assistants, child care, custodial, office, and school nutrition staff.

Union is an alternative calendar school for grades K – 5. We have four 9 week periods with a break between each. Our school year begins at the end of July and finishes at the end of May. Union Elementary is working toward becoming a STEM Center (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). We will enrich our students in science and mathematics and utilize all available technology recources in the classroom to bring learning alive.  Our focus for the 2009 - 2010 school year is mathematics.  Our focus for the 2010 - 2011 school year will be science.  We hope to be up and running as a STEM Center by the 2011 school year.

Our campus provides a great place to learn about nature, as well as, being spacious enough to run and play, further enhancing the learning experience here. We have a garden and greenhouse the students work in and learn from. Parents are a fundamental part of the daily life at Union Elementary. Their presence contributes remarkable assistance in the media center and classrooms throughout the year, along with opportunities to serve on the PTO. Parent input is encouraged and welcomed at all times at Union Elementary.

Our Kidz Zone child care program is second to none. This superb program provides a safe, enriching environment for children while their parents are working. The Raiders Kidz Zone is open before school at 6:30 a.m. and after school until 6 p.m.

Our school works diligently to be a safe place for all of our children and staff. A crisis response plan has been established in the unlikely event should one occur. Safety on the playground, as well as, in the classroom is one of our top priorities.

Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Union Elementary School Improvement Plan includes:

· Linking Learning to Real Life through daily teaching and learning activities.

· Character Education that is brought alive through our every interaction.

· Ongoing Professional Development to provide the newest innovative strategies and knowledge for our teachers.

· Improving the quality of oral and written communication of our students.

· Embracing technology as a tool for learning and improving teacher productivity.

· Becoming better problem solvers both individually and in groups, not only at school, but in their daily life experiences.

These goals and others are leading Union to producing students who will become prosperous, well-adjusted adults who will give back to their communities.

Come visit us and share your ideas and experiences so that we may meet our fullest potential.

Sincerely,

Danny Sullivan
